Set in the 1950s Yorkshire Dales, the children’s story follows Birdie, a mixed-race girl who finds herself an outsider in a new village. Seeking refuge from bullying, she forms a bond with Mr. Duke, the last pit pony in the village. As their friendship grows, Birdie devises a plan to save him.
