Emma and Nicole, co-hosts of the award-winning podcast Mixed Up, will join the conversation, drawing from their own experiences as they discuss themes from their new book, ‘The Half of It.’

Meet our Esteemed Panellists

Nicole Ocran and Emma Slade: Co-hosts of the Mixed Up podcast, exploring the mixed-race experience. Nicole is an American writer and fashion influencer, while Emma is a sustainability consultant and TEDx speaker. Together, they bring a rich perspective on race and identity.

Naomi and Natalie: Sisters, authors, anti-racist educators, and founders of @everydayracism, the UK’s largest anti-racism Instagram platform. They are committed to empowering people to make a difference in the world, with Naomi teaching at a secondary school and Natalie working full-time with Everyday Racism.

Chair: Ashleigh Nugent: Ashleigh Nugent’s debut novel, LOCKS, was published by Picador in 2023 to rave reviews, including The Guardian and Telegraph, and garnered support from literary heavyweights such as legendary screenwriter Jimmy McGovern, who described LOCKS as “utterly enthralling.” LOCKS has been longlisted for the Nota Bene prize and recently secured a TV option deal with 2LE Media. Ashleigh has written for theatres, academic journals, poetry anthologies, and the Royal Society of Literature. In 2021, Ashleigh was Liverpool City Region’s Artist of the Year and is also the course director at RiseUp, where he uses his own life experiences and mindset expertise to support prisoners.
