In 2016, Shakaila became the first Black person to earn a master's degree in fashion psychology at the London College of Fashion. Her research interrogated the underrepresentation of Black models in fashion, its impact on consumer behaviour and the self-concept of young Black women. After her paper was published, Shakaila created the platform 'Fashion is Psychology' to unpack the psychological impact of style and beauty. Her insights have been featured in Vogue, Sunday Times Style, Grazia, Guardian and more – and she has appeared on This Morning and Lorraine. Shakaila has also worked with international brands including Maybelline, Next, and Afterpay.
