YOUR BOOK COULD BE NEXT / BBBF x PAN MACMILLAN
The Black British Book Festival is Europe’s largest celebration of Black literature, and so much more. Founded in 2021, we have grown into a year-round cultural institution championing Black British books, writers and readers.
We run community libraries, schools and prison programmes, writer development and major publishing partnerships, and we bring Black British literature to stages from the Barbican to Glastonbury, Hay Festival and Cheltenham. Our mission is to make Black British literature more visible, more valued and more accessible, and to build lasting cultural infrastructure for generations to come.
On Sunday 4 October 2026, 6,000 readers, writers and book lovers filled the Barbican Centre for our fifth festival and Europe’s largest celebration of Black literature.
With 80+ authors and creatives across 35+ events, we welcomed Candice Carty-Williams, Corinne Bailey Rae, Wretch 32 and Maggie Aderin-Pocock to our headline stage, alongside the Black Poetry Shutdown, live music from Heartless Crew, masterclasses for aspiring writers, our Black Book Marketplace and a packed Children’s Zone.
